In my quest to be more mindful about my choices as a fashion designer around organic, ethical and sustainable product… I decided to be more natural with my makeup and skincare and live by the saying ‘Start how you mean to go on’.
Stela from Organic Stela is my World Organics skincare consultant. I admire Stela for her organic way of living, her style and her cool accent! Originally from Bulgaria, Stela now lives in New Zealand with her family and is making a name for herself as an Organic Cook. I wanted to talk to Stela and find out how she came to be such an organic queen. These are my questions to her:
1. How did you first hear about World Organics and what made you want to sell it?
I found World Organics a few years ago at the Green Living Show which was at the ASB Showground. They had a stand there and I had a chat to the lovely ladies and I remember seeing a gold eye shadow, the one I’m wearing, and I loved the idea that it was organic. I mentioned to one of the ladies there that I was interested in having a chat about the whole range of product and a few days later we did and I fell in love with the idea that everything was ethical and organic. I loved that Megan, the founder, is a qualified Herbal Practitioner and Naturopath and she was really passionate about developing the products. So, it ticked all the boxes and it worked with any lifestyle so I thought yes, I would like to do it. I don’t really like putting any chemicals on myself so it was right for me.
2. Some of you might know that Organic Stela is amazing at cooking. If you check out her Instagram account you will see photos of all the amazing stuff she makes. She is an organic cook and she is awesome. So, I wanted to ask what your favourite meal was and how you got into cooking?
3. and also…. Where did your passion for everything organic come from?
I have lots of favourite meals. At the moment because it is winter we eat a lot of soup in our house. It’s a good way to get a lot of veggies into the kids and us so we have all sorts of lentils and beans and meatball soup and vegetarian.
When I was little I used to cook with my grandmother and that is where my passion started. Having three kids I cook every day and am always practising what I know.
I am from Bulgaria and I grew up where basically everything was grown in the garden, all the vegetables and fruit. We preserved everything for the winter. So actually, we didn’t really eat fresh vegetable in the winter we had everything preserved. We had sauerkraut and all sorts of jams. Going to another world where we had to shop for everything from the supermarket was a big learning curve for me and now I want to go back to a more natural way of living.
So that’s where my passion has come back to being more organic and natural.
4. I think Stela has an amazing style so I wanted to ask her a bit about where she shops and where she thinks she got her style from?
5. What is it like growing up in Bulgaria from a fashion point of view?
I always harassed my mother when I was younger to go to a bigger town to get some different clothes. I always looked for something different. Now at the moment I love opp shopping (charity and second-hand stores). So now I mix a little bit of opp shopping with maybe Zara, I do love Zara. Opp shops are really great because you can find some really cool stuff that is a little bit different. The style comes from being European and coming here it’s a little bit different.
